Risna graduated from the Rand Afrikaans University, in 2004. She’s being practicing ever since, mainly in Bloemfontein. She has worked for other optometrists in private practice.

Risna still does locums where needed and assists with the Optometry students at the University of the Free State.

It’s always been her dream to open her own practice and in 2015 it became a reality. Risna believes in the personal touch. Professional, caring, friendly interaction with patients that is directed to every patient’s specific need is very important.

Affordability is also important in the current economical state.

During the comprehensive eye examination, Risna will assess all the different aspects of the visual system. She works closely with ophthalmologists and other specialists to refer patients if pathology is suspected or if patients have systemic diseases or other needs. Prevention is better than cure.

Patient education is a vital part of patient care.  It’s important that patients must understand the visual system, why they need glasses, what type of lenses they will wear and how it works. They must also be educated on possible pathology.
